Chiles Family Crest - Burke's General Armory       Ballinger Family Crest - German Heraldic

Chiles Family Coat of Arms

The Chiles Coat of Arms on the above right was drawn from information officially recorded in ancient heraldic archives. Documentation for the Chiles Crest can be found in Burke's General Armory.

Heraldic artists of old developed their own unique language to describe an individual Coat of Arms. In their language, the Arms (Sheild) is as follows: "Quarterly 1st and fourth, gu. a chev. erm. betw. three eaglets close are.: 2nd and 3rd, ar. on a bend az. three escallops of the field"

When translated the Arms description is: "Quarterly 1 and 4 red, an ermine chevron between three silver eagles, 2 and 3 silver, on a blue band three silver shells."

Above the shield and helmet is the Crest which is described as:
"An eagle wings expanded ar. entwined around the neck with a snake, whose tail is waved over his back all ppr."

A translation of the Crest description is:
"Silver eagle, wings spread, entwined around the neck with a snake whose tail is waved over his back in natural color."

Family Motto

Family mottos are believed to have originated as battle cries in medieval times. The Motto recorded with the Chiles Coat of Arms is:

The Family Motto: "IMITARI QUAM INVIDERE" Meaning: "To Imitate Rather than Envy."
