Notes
Research:
Berenguela (or Berengaria) (1180-November 8, 1246), was briefly queen of Castile and León. Daughter of Alfonso VIII of Castile and Leonora of Aquitaine, she married Alfonso IX in 1198, but the pope annulled this later because they were second cousins.
When her brother Henry died by accident in 1217, Berenguela renounced her rights to the throne, in favor of her son Ferdinand.

General:
Heiress of Sconemost likely indicates Scone Castle. It is one of the oldest and most sacred sites of Scotland. The castle still stands today on the banks of Tay, ouside Perth.
Within the estate rises a Moot Hill, a place name deriving from the Gaelic "Tom-a-mhoid", meaning "a place where justice is administered." It was here in 846 that Kenneth MacAlpine founded Celtic Abertha, the capital of the unified kingdom of the Scots and Picts. From that date onwards the Scottish Kings were crowned on the consecrated Stone of Destiny, brought by MacAlpine fro Dunstaffnage.
Even after Edward I, King of England took the stone and placed it in Westminster Abbey in London, where it was incorporated into the Coronation Throne, the Scottish kings continued to be crowned at Scone.
in approximately 1120, on that same site, the first Augustinian monastery in Scotland was founded by King Alexander I. The abbey and the abbot's palace were also used as a residence by the royal family. The monastery complex enjoyed great prosperity during the reign of Robert III and the rising city of Edinburgh was annexed to the abbey so that it could benefit from its great wealth. In 1210 William the Lion founded a royal settlement a short distance away, on the site of what is today the city of Perth.
Pm tje 27th of June, 1559, the monastery was sacked by the fanatical followers of John Know, inflamed by one of his sermons held at St. John Street Perth. The ruins of the toyal town and the monastery became the property of the Earls of Gowrie. The Gowries conspired to assasinate King James IV of Scotland. Upon discovery of their unsuccessful attempt to kill the King, the properties reverted to the Crown. David Murray, of Flemish ancestry, foiled the plot to kill the King. As his reward, his family was given the Scone Castle estate. Later, his brother, William Murray was bequeathed the title of The Earl of Mansfield. The castle still bears the Mansfield Coat of Arms upon its gates.
